The Global Procurement (GP) organization at United Airlines is responsible for, among other things, procuring goods and services and developing/managing relationships with third-party providers with the objective of reducing total cost and risk to United improving levels of quality, service, and technology.

The primary responsibility of this Lead position is to support the center-led Strategic Supplier Risk Management program within the Global Procurement Division at United. This role is responsible for enhancing the supplier risk management framework, processes and tool. This role ensures that supplier risks—including financial, operational, compliance, cybersecurity, and ESG risks—are effectively assessed and mitigated while also driving supplier performance to align with business objectives. The role requires cross-functional collaboration with business stakeholders, risk domain owners, and procurement teams to integrate risk and performance management into supplier lifecycle processes.

 Process Optimization & Governance

            Integrate supplier risk and performance management into procurement workflows to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.

            Develop and refine governance models, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent risk and performance oversight across all supplier engagements.

            Leverage technology and automation to enhance supplier risk and performance tracking, driving real-time insights and reporting.

            Define KPIs and reporting mechanisms to measure program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

            Serve as the primary liaison between Global Procurement, business units, and risk domain owners to ensure supplier risk and performance management is integrated into operations.

            Develop and lead training programs to enhance awareness of supplier risk management best practices and ensure consistent adoption across various stakeholder groups.

            Foster a risk-aware culture by driving continuous engagement with stakeholders, ensuring supplier risk and performance considerations are embedded in procurement decisions.

            Analytical & Data-Driven Risk Insights

            Leverage supplier risk intelligence platforms to proactively identify, assess, and monitor emerging supplier risks.

            Develop and manage supplier risk dashboards and reports, providing real-time insights for procurement and risk stakeholders.

            Utilize data analytics and predictive modeling to identify trends, assess supplier vulnerabilities, and drive risk-informed decision-making.

            Continuously refine risk scoring models to ensure alignment with evolving business needs, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Supplier Risk and Performance Management

            Establish and maintain risk assessment processes to evaluate inherent and residual risks throughout the supplier lifecycle.

            Integrate risk and performance data to provide a holistic view of supplier reliability, resilience, and strategic value.

            Develop a structured risk segmentation approach, categorizing suppliers based on criticality, exposure, and potential business impact.

            Define clear risk ownership and escalation protocols, ensuring timely intervention and accountability across all stakeholders.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk, Supply Chain, or another business-related field.
  • 4+ years of consulting, risk management, performance management, or finance experience
  •  Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving skills
  •  Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills.
  •  Strong process mapping and change management skills
  • Experience with both internal stakeholder and supplier relationship management,
  •  Ability to work independently.
  • Efficient conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent market information analysis skills and supply market knowledge
  • Skilled in strategic-minded project management
  • Works well in a high-paced cross-functional environment

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree or MBA
  • PMP
  • 5+ years of experience/understanding of supplier risk management, business development, and strategy, finance, operation, and strategy
  • Proficient in process mapping, change management, data analysis, and visualization, reporting, and business intelligence tools.
