We have an exciting opportunity for an Orion Environmental Control and Life Support System Subsystem Manager to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected you will:

  • Be a Subsystem Manager for the Orion ECLSS including the following:
    • Assume full oversight responsibility (under the direction of the NASA ECLSS System Manager) for all engineering and operations decisions for Orion ECLSS related topics
    • Be responsible for one of the subsystems including Air Revitalization Subsystem (ARS), Pressure Control Subsystem (PCS), Potable Water Supply (PWS), and Crew Waste Management
    • Review system architectures, hardware requirements, designs, assembly procedures, test plans, procedures and data of Orion ELCSS subsystems
    • Certify ECLSS hardware for flight and/or reflight
  • Assess and understand engineering drawings and sketches
  • Provide recommendations for materials selection for flight hardware
    • Be able to troubleshoot and investigate hardware failures and provide recommendations to get hardware back to working condition
    • Understand and utilize commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures for ECLSS hardware on Orion Elements
    • Support real time system operations, including flight support in the Mission Evaluation Room (MER)
    • Handle communications between various hardware providers and sustaining organizations
    • Take point in exchanging information with a wide range of stakeholders including, but not limited to, the Orion Program, JSC Engineering, Vehicle Office, and Kennedy Space Center
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the ECLSS System Manager.
    • Some travel required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required
  • A working knowledge of mechanical, fluid and pressure-based systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an understanding/exposure to Orion ECLSS functions and related hardware
  • A working knowledge of, and experience with, Space Vehicle flight operations and documentation
  • Experience with Orion
  • Knowledge of hardware certification and flight processes
  • Prior knowledge and experience with Orion ECLSS subsystems
  • Be familiar with system/subsystem management roles
  • Be able to coordinate across multiple organizations
  • Be fully familiar with the functions of the Orion Program boards and technical forums and able to develop and clearly communicate information to those Program boards and technical forums
