Job Description
Sagetech Avionics develops and delivers advanced transponder and IFF systems for military and civil aircraft as well as advanced collision avoidance solutions. Our products enable secure, reliable airspace integration for crewed and uncrewed platforms worldwide. We’re entering a major growth phase with our first full-rate defense production contract — the AN/APX-128 IFF transponder — and are building a world-class production and test capability to deliver it.
The Quality Manager will ensure that the Quality Management System (QMS) is in place to support reliable and repeatable Full Rate Production for the AN/APX-128. This position will be responsible for improving, expanding and auditing Sagetech’s FAA-approved production processes and procedures in order to gain AS 9100D certification for the new AN/APX-128 production line as well as current XP and MX production lines. This is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the Director of Operations with a dotted line to the Chief Compliance Officer.
Objectives of this Role
Quality Management
Ensure that Sagetech’s QMS is maintained in compliance with 14 CFR § 21.608, AS9100 latest rev, customer, and regulatory quality requirements.
Prepare QMS for AS 9100D audit and follow up on any non-conformances necessary to achieve certification.
Schedule and lead Management Review Meetings (MRMs) as defined in Sagetech’s QMS.
Collaborate on the utilization of statistical sampling, automated inspection, GD&T, and other quality assurance methods as appropriate. Provide work instructions and guidance to Quality Technicians in the execution of incoming material inspection, interim manufacturing inspections as appropriate, and final product compliance inspections.
Keep the Leadership Team up to date on changing requirements related to the Quality Management System.
Quality and Continuous Improvement Leadership
Participate in strategic quality planning, setting, and monitoring objectives
Work proactively with the operations team to drive productivity, reduce cycle time, and improve quality.
Work closely with all employees and supervisors to communicate, encourage, and ensure compliance with Quality Objectives.
Develop and drive periodic reporting of key performance indicators throughout the company.
Develop and maintain a supplier qualification and performance monitoring program.
Develop and maintain QMS training for all employees to promote awareness of customer and regulatory requirements, including principles and practices of quality management and processes and tools for continuous improvement
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
Oversee the performance of the Quality Management System, report on key performance indicators and make recommendations for improvements where necessary to the Management Team
Develop and maintain the company’s QMS in compliance with AS 9100D requirements.
Ensure MXS production line maintains compliance with quality requirements of Sagetech’s FAA Production Approval.
Represent Sagetech in matters related to the QMS with auditors and registrars, including completing supplier surveys and participating in customer audits.
Oversee corrective and preventive action activities, including supplier corrective actions.
Conduct required internal audits and first article inspections.
Oversee the configuration management of QMS documents and data.
Handle customer complaints and manage all non-conformance issues and implement corrective actions.
Oversee qualification of suppliers and supplier scorecards.
Prepare and present quality reports to the management team and the company.
Required Skills and Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
A minimum of 3 years of experience in quality management, preferably in the aerospace and defense industries.
Solid knowledge with quality standards and experience in implementing and overseeing the execution of an AS 9100 QMS. Experience with FAA Production Approval desired.
Proficiency in using quality inspection tools and techniques.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; good people skills.
Working knowledge of MS Office.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Highly organized; detail oriented.
Working experience drafting and formatting technical and business documents.
Experience with lean and six sigma in a manufacturing environment. Green Belt or Black Belt certification desired.
Professional certification in Quality Management or a related field desired.
